@ThomasWic @mariel My brother was olive skin toned. I'm so white, if I stay out in the sun I'll burn to a crisp. 😂 It's amazing how different we can be, even when related. I've always been fascinated how Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) is a redhead, but his brother has black hair. He has another sister with red, but his other two sisters are brunettes, as are his parents. It's always about what gene you get.

@ThomasWic @umad80 @mariel LMAO you know the darkest people I EVER met? My daughter's boyfriend is straight 100% polish and in the summer, under the sun he is darker than my friend from Nigeria. My other dear friend from high school was half German and half Swedish and in the summer she had WHITE hair and BLACK skin. We used to call her Hershey bar! So many of us are people of color, just depends on the season!

@umad80 @mariel I'm pretty sure that my grandfather was the result of a fling with the Sioux maid.My grandfather was said to be 100 percent German, but he had olive skin and brown eyes. He didn't look anything like his brothers or sister, and his features seem Native American to me.My father never burned. He had blue eyes, but in the sun, his skin went deep brown immediately.

@ThomasWic @mariel See, I'd love to be able to tan! The last time I was out in the sun too long, I burned so bad my face puffed out. So I try to be more careful now. I'm 100% European. And I don't think there were any crazy flings. Well, my aunt and my mom never knew their dad, and we think they had different fathers, but other than that... it's all pretty straight foreward in our family.

@mariel it's only a matter of time before they dropped the phrase "people of color". Especially seeing as how no one likes the phrase "colored people" which makes zero sense at all especially seeing as how the NAACP still uses the phrase. Both phrases are extremely racist. What they mean is everyone but white people and occasionally Asians. With Asians it depends on their attitude. If they're liberal they're of color. If they're conservative their white.

@mariel @WarriorPoet @umad80 @ThomasWic The predicate for a species is the ability to reproduce successfully. There is only one human species and all can reproduce successfully. All have the same gene pool but different "populations" have dominant groupings of expressive genes. Ancient populations were far removed from each other and interbreeding was exceedingly rare until agrarian cultures were set up and trade routes established. Then the conquering and mixing began.

@2020_DJT @umad80 @ThomasWic @mariel Heya Kathy, because of the very high incidence of melanoma down here in Australia, we had a very successful campaign called 'Slip, Slop, Slap.'Slip on a shirt.Slop on some sunscreen,And Slap on a hat.The campaign led to new regulations for schools where tiny ones had to wear hats and long sleeve shirts in playgrounds. Tiny ones got sunshirts for the beaches and Sunscreen companies made a fortune. And it did lower skin cancer stats.

@2020_DJT @umad80 @ThomasWic @mariel Pardon my French lovely, but Melanoma is a Bastard of a disease. It can arrive at almost any age. And it can emerge in the oddest of places on or in the body. I've read of cases down here where a spot can appear under a toenail, and then spread. Behind a knee, under an armpit. We regularly see people with small (or even large) dressings on their faces, heads and necks from removals by their doctors.

@inverness01 @2020_DJT @umad80 @ThomasWic @mariel I certainly agree with you about the tube full of chemicals. Scottish research I read about a little while back (about 6 mths ago) related ADHD and ADD to lower levels of Vitamin D. Our Slip Slop Slap campaign first began around the mid/late 80s. Greater numbers of children began being diagnosed here in Australia around that time with ADHD. The two things correspond, however I would need to do a lot more investigating (1)

@inverness01 @2020_DJT @umad80 @ThomasWic @mariel (2) The correlation between the Slip Slop Slap Campaign and greater diagnosed ADHD levels along with the links to lower Vitamin D, to me, seem to connect in , at the moment, an anecdotal way, however follow-up research would still be needed. Our best source of Vit D is from the sun, and apparently we need around an hour or two of sun exposure per day for our best intake. (2)

@oystergirl @mariel @umad80 @ThomasWic Yes — do it!!!If you’re working on your family’s genealogy, the DNA test won’t take the place of searching for the documentation to create your family tree. But it might lead you to family you didn’t know existed. You’ve got nothing to lose, in my opinion.

@rarity @mariel @umad80 @ThomasWic I have a half sister. My mom gave her up for adoption and at the age of 28 I found out I had a sister. It was so hard and wonderful all at the same time, she lived in Australia after leaving England once born. My mother says she does not remember the name of the man who is her father (I think she is in denial but that is another thing) anyway, she did both 23Me and Ancestry and has been getting a lot of info. I think it's great but DO they track our DNA?

@oystergirl @rarity @mariel @ThomasWic You can say how they can use your DNA. I feel if there was some sort of shady business going on there’d be a whistleblower by now.

@umad80 @oystergirl @mariel @ThomasWic Agreed.23&Me also provides “health reports” — some of which are about very serious genetic disorders (like the BRCA1 gene). And some are based on likelihood — comparing one’s DNA to others within their huge DNA database. For example, I’m genetically predisposed to liking cilantro. I mean — who doesn’t like cilantro!?? 🤷🏼♀️It turns out there are people who can’t stand it — has something to do with the genes that govern taste.

@rarity @umad80 @oystergirl @mariel @ThomasWic @rarity lol, I always thought cilantro tasted like soap, and when I was little I used to get my mouth washed out with soap-a lot 😁 ..Now, I seem to have developed a liking for the taste of it (cilantro, not soap, lol), go figure 😂 ..never heard of it being something genetic, interesting!

@Dawnz @rarity @umad80 @mariel @ThomasWic Yep, soapy cilantro and bitter stevia is also a genetic predisposition. I can't take the stuff!

@Lonestar I discovered Cilantro when I moved to El Paso and fell absolutely in love with it. It's my go-to herb. I choose Cilantro over parsley every time. The rest of my immediate family think it tastes like metal. @Dawnz @rarity @umad80 @oystergirl @mariel @ThomasWic
