The maximum number of people I feel comfortable around in my vicinity seems to be 4. More people than that in the same room/space and I just wanna get up and leave.

@fribbledom I havent figured out if I have a specific population threshhold yet. However, I think I may relate to what you say.

@fribbledom I'll be honest, even as an extrovert, four other people in the same room can be overwhelming

@fribbledom mine is generally 1 or 2 and after that i am starting to fade away from the conversation. After 4 or 3 i want to leave.

@fribbledom The number of people I can tolerate is (loosely) proportional to their intelligence.

@fribbledom I kind of feel similar. 4 people I feel is the optimal amount to have a relaxed conversation. Any more than that and participation becomes infrequent enough that I lose interest just trying to get a word in. It's not really an issue if the group breaks off into sub-groups to talk, but there is that awkward transition period at around 5-7 people where it's still justifiably small enough to keep one cohesive group.
