@baldilocks When I was in college from 1981 to 1985, there was a fad among leftist women.They didn't use toilet paper.They used water and their hand.The problem was that THEY TALKED ABOUT IT.I asked one, "Why the hell are you telling me this? Isn't my expression of total disgust getting through to you?""Why are you disgusted? I'm trying to explain a more natural approach to using the toilet."You know what I wish? @baldilocks In Venezuela, our maid had her own room. All the maids in the oil camp came over, because she had an air conditioner.My father installed the air conditioner because he felt that if we had it, she should too.This is her sister, with my father.And there wasn't anything untold, in case people are worried. My father was never home, and our maid and her sister were too happy for there to have been anything wrong.Very funny girls. Witty and always laughing.

@baldilocks @ThomasWic The AC at my work is righteously cold and glorious. I have to run a little space heater sometimes. It's the way to be.But I have worked in the airless 'comfort' of an overly warm environment, and it's...unhealthy.

@ThomasWic @baldilocks Yikes! And there I was thinking my experience was unpleasant. The first time I wanted to use a lavatory in an Arabian country I was taken aback by the ladies in black all spitting red saliva into the basin. However when I went into the cubicle the hole in the floor was OK when needs must but the box of small pebbles had me pedalling backwards and any pressing need vanished.

@ThomasWic @MarieGreen @baldilocks Back in 2001, I, along with a group of friends, took a ski trip to Austria.On the last night a large group of us from the trip ended up in one of the hotel rooms..we were partying, laughing and telling stories about our trip.One girl laughingly told us of her first night when she had to use the ‘facilities’. After relieving herself, she reached around to wipe herself and ended up putting her hand right in her poo...we all laughed hysterically

@ThomasWic @MarieGreen @baldilocks According to my sister, the rest stop for bus travellers in Burkina Faso consists of the bus stopping in the middle of nowhere, the men going off to the left side of the road and the women to the right, and everyone doing their thing in the open. It’s considered rude to look, so you have a kind of elevator vibe where everyone is examining a different cloud.

@ThomasWic @baldilocks What a nice thing he did for her and definitely not the norm in terms of 'patrones/bosses. I lived in Latin America for a period during my teens and while our home was very nice, the accommodations for the maid were the absolute bare minimum, (teeny room, teeny bath, no closet) so we never hired a live in. Many of the maids I saw would often eat in the kitchen, standing up. Definitely a culture shock for me.
