As a witness in real time I recall very early on in the film version that it 
had been done before.  My wires got crossed about Vger sometime later ... I 
guess.

In this case I thought the movie wasted far too much time attempting to impress 
with graphics and, other than adding Vger, did little to nothing on the 
storyline.
