That's just the nature of running 35-year-old C code through a modern
compiler—-it's going to shout, but it is what it is. Since we can't change
how GCC behaves much with old code, there's not much use worrying about it
unless you want to refactor the whole codebase for free...which is something
I don't think anyone wants to do on their own time.
