Subj : FidoNews 43:29 [07/07]: Fidonet Web Page Reviews To : All From : FidoNews Robot Date : Sun Jul 19 2026 04:44 pm ================================================================= FIDONET WEB PAGE REVIEWS ================================================================= A Web Mirror and Search Index for FidoNews For anyone who likes to look something up: a web mirror of FidoNews now exists. It gathers the back issues that could be found, makes their full text searchable, and keeps each issue's original .nws file available to download, at a stable address you can link to. This changes nothing about FidoNews itself. The newsletter is still put together and sent over the network exactly as it always has been, by the same process and the same hands. The mirror is only a convenience for reading, searching and citing the archive off-network. It sits alongside the usual distribution; it does not replace it and does not touch it. Two small effects may come with that convenience, and both are offered as possibilities, not plans. The first is close to home. FidoNews has always lived on what its members send it. If it is easier to read and to search, some may find it easier to open again -- and, for those so inclined, to write for it once more. That is for each of us to decide; the mirror only lowers the doorstep a little. The second looks outward. What is easy to find tends to get found. An open, searchable archive may catch the eye of people outside FidoNet, and some who wander in may grow curious about the network behind it. This is nothing new in kind: FidoNews has always been a public, open forum. It may simply be a little more visible now. Anyone who arrives with respect for how things are done here has always been welcome. The mirror takes no position on how FidoNews is or should be run. It preserves what has been published, as it was published. Every article stays its author's; linking to an issue is always fine, and reusing an article beyond reading is for its author or the Editor to allow, exactly as before. The archive is only as complete as the sources it was built from, so it is surely missing issues and carrying the odd wrong date. If you kept copies it lacks, or you spot a gap or a mistake, a message back will help close it. The archive is not finished and is not anyone's to own: it is the network's to correct and complete, the same way the newsletter always has been. There are no ads and no money in it. It is volunteer work, offered to the network in the same spirit FidoNews has always been written in.
