Book Recs ========= I'm not a bookish person. Every year, I can count in one hand the number of book I've attempted to read. As soon as a book displays symptoms of "annoying writing" (see below), it is diagnosed as "unreaable" and I never look back. I generally stick to library books for this reason. On the rare occasion I do find an enjoyable book, I have no problem reading it over and over again. I splurge on the hardback and audiobook (if available). They become my patient companions as I trudge through the mundanity of life, my stalwart anchor when despair threatens to consume me. My Favourites ============= - If You Should Fail Author: Joe Moran Audiobook Narrator: Ned Porteous - First You Write a Sentence Author: Joe Moran Audiobook Narrator: Roy McMillan - All the Beauty in the World Author and Audiobook Narrator: Patrick Bringley - The Gospel of the Eels Author: Patrik Svensson - An Admirable Point Author: Florence Hazrat - How Data Happened Author: Chris Wiggins & Matthew L. Jones Narrator: Eric Jason Martin *Note* The narrator kinda sounds like Welt from Honkai Star Rail! - There's No Such Thing As an Easy Job Author: Kikuko Tsumura Translator: Polly Barton Symptoms of Annoying Writing (a.k.a. personal pet-peeves) ============================ - Very long nouns (e.g. "the behavioral value reinvestment cycle") that get repeated over and over - Too many -ity and -ation words (e.g. modernity, globalisation etc.) - Author starts the book by listing thier achievements or bragging about their influence. (Ironically, this makes me trust them less. Usually the first sign of preachy prose.) .
