Did you know that teachers aren't actually paid for summer break?

I sure as hell didn't.

Before becoming a teacher, I (like many other people, I suspect)
assumed that summer break was an awesome perk. Sure, teaching is
hard, but you get paid to take 2-3 months off every year.

Nope.

Don't get me wrong, summer break is pretty nice, but it's not the
same thing as paid time off, because teachers don't actually *get
paid* for the time they aren't teaching. It is, in fact, *unpaid
time off*.

While some school districts just spread nine months of pay over 12
months, many school districts don't even *distribute paychecks*
during summer break, meaning teachers have to budget for those
months carefully.

All of this means that teachers get paid peanuts doing a job most
people wouldn't do for 3x the money, they don't even get to draw a
full-year's salary for it, and then get guilt-tripped by the rest
of the working world as a result.

Lame.
