These sound like cool ideas, I know that Deon is very much a Pi enthusiast
and sure he will be getting all excited to see this =)

I have seen some people use Pi's for in-car gadgetry, such as connecting to
the cambus to get all the tacho/speedo data, you could also make it some sort
of navigation and maybe even entertainment system. The GPS could also double
as a sort of car tracker or something.
