Subj : 2012 Macbook Pro Very Slow

Hey, I figured I might as well ask here.

So a couple of years ago, I got a used Macbook pro from 2012, and have been 
upgrading it to the latest OS that supports x86, and I've noticed it really 
chugs along now. I've had it fixed before at the Apple Store, but they don't 
want to work on it any more.

So what advice can you guys give to help speed up the OS without wiping the 
hard drive or downgrading the OS?
