I suggest you start at 20WPM for letters and the slowest setting overall.
Then slowly increase the effective speed. You just have to focus on the sound
the letter makes and not try to discern the dits and dahs.

Whatever suits you, the key is just to give it a go each day. After I suggest
you tune an SDR on the Internet and try copying the W1AW CW broadcast. The
websdr.org website is really nice for that as you can tune SDR's all around the
globe.

It's a very good practice for copying CW in a generic chat context.
