I particularly enjoy DX HF, where you're almost 100% sure to talk to someone
you don't know anyway. This is really fun, I made a couple of friends I
talked to on a fairly regular basis (2 or 3 times a year is fairly regular Hi
Hi)

I never really liked VHF and other "local" modes, except to talk about a very
specific topic or during involvements in emergency management.

I preferred throwing a wire in a tree or on a fiberglass pole and make a
couple QSO on a picnic table in a parc while the kids were playing with other
kids.

My kids never got into radio but it's fun to see the faces of other kids when
I told them the guy I was talking to was 5000km away :)
