Well, you can.  Traditionally, that was packet radio at 1200 to 9600 bps
simplex, but there are some higher speed network options like wifi mesh and
even a new amateur radio packet protocol designed for higher speeds on UHF
frequencies than packet radio (but not as fast as wifi).

There's a few options, though the higher speeds tend to require a bit of a
financial outlay and/or a lot of home construction.
