I don't even think email is used much any more in that regard. People prefer to send messages over social media these days. That said, email has become a bit more common in the "Indie Web" movement on the clearnet. Most sites on Neocities have an email you can send messages to, and if I really like their site, I send them an email telling them so, and what's so cool about it! From experience of receiving such emails myself, I know they mean a lot! As for written letters, it's been so long since I did that. I get RSI whenever I write too much, so even back then I tend to avoid it. You know, writing this messages has reminded me that I have a typewriter somewhere. I think it would be cool to use that to write some messages to people. Maybe one day if I met anyone down to be penpals with me! ....
