(almost) brand new and had a different serial.  I assumed it was a refurb.

The latest is that they're suspicious that plugging in a Dell monitor via the 
right-side USB-C port might be playing into the issue.  They've got a couple of 








































































































































































































































































































































other customers with similar issues.  I can't imagine what kind of backfeed 
would be happening that would be blowing out that chip, or why there's not 
overvoltage protection, or at least a diode or something in the way, especially 








































































































































































































































































































































since mine's plugged in via an active USB-C -> HDMI adapter.
