It's a valid strategy, but I don't see the Mini as being inherently more 
reliable than a quality laptop.  Laptops are just cheap as chips once they get 
a couple of years old, and being in IT I've historically had unfettered access 
to the scrap pile at work :).

For the type of work I do, a five year old laptop with an i5, 32GB of RAM, and 
a 512GB SSD will work fine most of the time.
