I did that for some time with an old Thinkpad, just not intentionally. :)

Lubuntu and an old Thinkpad worked well with those resources.

I thought a better challenge would be to limit the amount of bandwidth per 
day - harkening back to the days of IRC, News, and text-formatted email.

I poked around a bit, the hosting site - dataswamp is pretty cool. 
Reminiscent of all of the tildes.
