Subj : Going all in on IPv6? To : All From : deon Date : Fri Jan 28 2022 21:11:33 Howdy, Has anybody who has IPv6 thought about ditching IPv4? I'm very tempted to do it. Today I tried tayga and couldnt get it going, when I stumbled upon jool. Jool was surprisingly easy to get going and has 2 distinct benefits: * Using a /96 from your network, it can map that to IPv4 address, so that that IPv6 clint can talk to an IPv4 system. It's all done in kernel space, but it essentially proxies the connection. * For the reverse, where you have a service (eg: a BBS) and you want IPv4 clients to connect to your BBS with only an IPv6 address. It's also done in kernel space, but it essentially is the same as NAT. I guess for IPv4 connections, there is an additional hop and probably some latency, but for IPv6 to IPv6 connections its not part of the path, so you get your line speed. I'll throw some more load at it and see how it handles more pressure. ....лоеп --- SBBSecho 3.14-Linux * Origin: I'm playing with ANSI+videotex - wanna play too? (1337:2/101) .
