Actually using some of it to check out some more obscure films that I missed. One thing that got a little hat tip (the reference to cyberpunk as a subcultural identity and defining a cyberpunk as someone who wears a portable scanner) was the Mondo 2000/cyberdelic/cryptopunk scene of the 90s. I collect Mondo 2000 (and other media by R U Sirius and others in that scene) and it is something that isn't well researched or represented. I mean, the echoes of it are in things like Boing Boing (especially the editors), the EFF, etc. Fuck, even Dr. Timothy Leary wrote a full book on Cyberculture and the tranformations of self, society, and culture that internet/vr/cheap accessible tech/remix culture/etc. could bring about. I mean, it is certainly more "side quest" material, as opposed to books, movies, and games, but still participatory media (and there were more than a couple scans from the magazine in the documentary). --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A45 2020/02/18 (Linux/64) * Origin: The Bottomless Abyss BBS * bbs.bottomlessabyss.net (1337:3/106) .
