Weird - I haven't come across that functionality in the docs, nor the /r/immich community but I'll be sure to dig a bit deeper.

Works a charm for all my on-device data, and new photos - I just have to get my entire cloud data pulled down...

The guy behind it worked for Yahoo during the dot com build up and bust - supposedly made tons of money and is the developer behind that drop-down terminal Yuakake (sp?)... he's in it to make money, but I kinda agree with most of what they stand for; certainly all their pillars. I don't mind when open-source makes income - I mean that kinda has to happen for people to want to develop past their personal needs... and they say they'll always offer a self-hosted version for 'us' - they want to sell open-source to the masses and give big tech a run for their money.
