The batteries are the most expensive part of the system. That one cost about $185 but like you said, it should last quite a while depending on usage. You can use slightly cheaper batteries like a deep cycle marine, just make sure to get the highest amp-hour you can afford. I use one 85 amp-hour marine battery to power part of my ham radio station and it works nicely. The panels are rated for 20-25 years. They will still put out 80% of their rated power at that age. The main purpose of the system is to provide power/lights to the storage shed. Sure, it cost more than running a 120v line to it....BUT, I would not have learned anything and it would still be tied to the mains. I wanted an independent system that could be used for additional aux power in case it's needed. Thanks!
