Yeah, basically if someone ever wants to debate whether the freemasons
worship Satan/Lucifer, just walk away. You can't win an argument with someone
like that. The religious aspects of the craft don't really appeal to me, but
portions of the York Rite specifically require a member to be a Christian, or
at least show a preference towards upholding the Christian faith.

The Scottish Rite has no such requirements, and acknowledges paganism, Islam,
and other religions during its theatrics. This is of course where the Albert
Pike quote about Lucifer is always taken out of context by non-masons.
Download a copy of Morals and Dogma (I think I have it on Alcoholiday, but
it's all over the internet), and you can read the bit on Lucifer for yourself
and see if you think he's glorifying Satan...

Both the Scottish and York rites are appendant bodies to traditional "blue
lodge" masonry. After you are a master mason you can join them. They extend
the teachings of the first three degrees of masonry and they both have some
overlap and similarities. Personally, I suggest the Scottish.

You'll fit in then! Me, I dislike cooking. I'd rather fellowship over drinks
and cigars and discussion.

Southern lodges aren't really down with a lot of the esoterica, but a lot of
folks aren't looking for that. They are looking for a club, a group of people
to hang with, whatever. Esoterists can often come off as pompous jackholes to
be honest. I know that's how people would see me if I tried to start a
discussion on the "alchemical properties of the initiatic experience" or
something along those lines. Eyerolls would ensue... but that's actually what
interests me about the stuff.
