Subj : Starting a Secret Society

I'm writing this because I think this world could use a few more secret
societies that are NOT malevolent.  Have you ever wanted to be a part of
something special and you don't want to or don't know a way to get into one
of the more established societies.  You can make your own.  First of all you
have to decide what you want your society to do.  Will it be fun times where
you gather to get drunk and discuss politics (The Hellfire Club), or
something more beneficial to the world as a whole.  How many people do you
need to start your society before it is actually a "society?"  The fact is
you can start your society with only YOU as a member and grow from there. 
You might say, "if we're doing nothing illegal why should I start a secret
society?"  Its not about doing something illegal or legal, its about getting
people to talk about and participate in things that are of common interest to
the collective.  There is a certain society that I'm aware of that has as its
goal the helping of the underprivileged with computer technology, helping
seniors and youth get systems that they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.
This very Spooknet is run by PHATstar, a society that does just that. Nothing
illegal is going on at PHATstar but its been decided that it would be more
fun to keep our good works secret so that God can reward our efforts rather
than get accolades from people that are grateful of our efforts.  So what do
you need to start a society? A mission statement, a source of funds to put
everything together, other people that are interested in the work, and some
spare time.  Apart from that not much else is really needed.  Your secret
society can do a lot of good things.  You can help the poor, you can promote
a cause, start a house church, go urban exploring, start a white-hat hacker
collective where you give technical support to causes that you love, such as
radio recordings that go to 3rd world countries for educational purposes, and
a whole lot of other things.

The world DOES NOT need another malevolent group of yahoos. If you're going
to start a group be certain its for a good cause.  Basically if you can talk
to your mom and dad about it and they don't freak out then its probably okay.

Some thoughts of what you could do: If you're a chemistry major you could
start a group that synthesizes anti-septics (anti-biotics and anti-virals
and anti-fungals) at cost to save the lives of thousands in the 3rd world.  If
you're into Heating Ventilation And Airconditioning you could lend a hand
fixing the heat in Winter to those who's systems are down and can't afford
new machines.

Think about how you would like others to help you.  If you could use that
thing then there are probably others who could use the same help.  Try to
think, "if I could have people doing anything for me what would I have them
do?" and then do that very thing for other people.

One most important point is to keep your work secret.  When you do good so
that it can be seen by people and admired by them you have little or no
reward in Heaven (if you're doing it to impress people).  Also if people want
to do you harm for your doing good if they don't know who you are or who you
represent then they can't slap you in the face for trying to help.  And YES,
there are people that will hate you for doing good things because they are
Evil, and YES Evil exists.  I had a friend falsely accuse me of stealing
something because he wanted a lesser sentence from the cops for himself
stealing something.  He knew full well that I had nothing to do with stealing
the equipment, but to save his own skin he was "confessing" lies to the cops
so that he would look like he was giving good information for a lesser
sentence.  I had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the crime in question.  I
think that I had offered my help in setting up a new computer if he were to
get one.  Instead he turned around and said that I had played some part in
setting up a stolen computer, which I had not.  If I had just said that I
could send it off to get it upgraded for free or at cost this whole thing
might have been avoided.  And I learned a valuale lesson: DO NOT give charity
to just anyone. Some people are better off receiving nothing from you, and it
is OKAY to say "no."  When you do good works in secret, actually do it in
secret, not having the person know it was you that helped, if at all
possible.  If I were to fix that kid's computer, doing that all over again,
I'd invite myself to that house to meet with his sister for a coffee and set
it up while he was away, and only do that if I knew the gear wasn't "hot" or
stolen.

If you do good and no one knows who did that good deed they will give praise
to God and not you.  You can cherish in your heart that you helped someone in
need and keep it a secret from even your very best of friends.  It will be
like a cherished secret that you can look back on and have warm feelings
over.

Imagine that you are an Angel.  How would you, as an Angel, help out people
in your community?  Angels don't boast, they receive their accolades from God
and not men. They do great things in secret to the point of people being
utterly in awe of the great work and giving the praise where the praise is
due, the God of all Creation (YHWH).  You could save a life by helping
someone with depression, feed the hungry, visit a person in prision. ANYTHING
can be done when God is involved. There is virtually nothing that you can not
do.  Some people say, well I don't have such and such so I can't help in such
and such a way. I can tell you first hand that if you ask God, believing that
you will receive, you can be rewarded anything.  Anything is possible when
your heart is in the right place and you're doing it for reward from God and
not men.  There are so many avenues that you can pursue.  The differences
between your current self and what you want to be is action.  If you want
something done then do it.  It can be done if God approves, and he is no liar
in promising to do something and then not doing it.  He is a man of His Word.
So many people have a faith but deny the power thereof.  Just take God at his
word, ask for what you want, work to accomplish the goal and you are a lot
more likely to receive it than you might initially believe.

I have seen miracles first-hand and I can truly say that if you place
yourself in the hands of your creator, trusting him to see it through, you
can make just about anything happen.  The key ingredient is TRUST in the
person (God) who can make it happen.  Some people would say, "yeah, well he
could do it but he won't."  Rather than that, have a discussion with the Man
In Charge (The Great I AM) and you can sort out the particulars of how you
can serve in secret for the greatest outcomes.  When God gets the glory and
not you He has a greater incentive to help you, because it won't harm you by
boosting your ego, rather it will work for the glory of God.

Lets say that you're not a Christian.  That's a bad scene.  However its a
starting point on your way to trusting the creator of the world.  When your
heart is in the right place it is easier to be born again than someone caught
up in great sin.  You could start a secret society that helps people out,
however, if you're helping other people out and you haven't even helped
yourself out by receiving salvation from the Messiah (Jesus Christ) your work
is for nothing.  It was for this reason that I left Amnesty International. 
They believe in women's right to kill babies and murdering was completely
apart from my feelings of what is right and wrong.  So now I am involved with
the International Justice Mission (IJM) and they save people from slavery,
persecution, and other forms of injustice.  All that without killing kids;
its a no-brainer actually.

Again consider an Angel, a real angel, the word "angel" means "messenger" and
if you've got a message from God to share with the world you will not be
permanently hindered from sending that Good News around the world in ways you
have never imagined up to this point.  Some people have entertained Angels
without even knowing it, so treat your fellow man as you would like to be
treated and if you want to be an angel do what they do.  An angel is not a
certain type of species, but rather a messenger of God, which you can do. 
You can be that angel to people in need.
