One of the best examples of government's "Silencers of Information" is the case of Bob Lazar.  He had his birth records, employment records, educational records, and various other things completely redacted (erased with little trace of any of it at all remaining).  Bob Lazar is the iconic witness to the American collection of UFOs once held at Area-51.  He claims to have seen about a dozen craft that are well beyond any technology we have developed as a Human race.  The American government has tried to wipe out Bob's history to make his credibility be highly questioned.
