I've heard that when a person Astral Travels to a certain location, or probably also when they remote view a certain place that if there is a dog in that area they will bark at what seems to be nothing, which is really where the psychic traveler is exploring.  I read a book as a kid from the Forgotten Realms series of adventure books and it described the same sort of thing, where Psionics was used to spy on a certain area and the animals got upset at the presence of the spy which the people did not feel.  It is known that animals have far far superior of the five senses that we humans do.  Perhaps that increased sense perception could be used as some sort of warning system as to where/when the opposition is viewing your area.

Disclaimer: Do not do remote viewing as spiritual perception apart from The Holy Spirit is forbidden.  That's not to say it doesn't work, it certainly does, but rather it is considered an abomination to God to use paranormal spirits to bring up the dead, to have spiritual guides, or anything of the like.  There is plenty of space using The Holy Spirit to do those things that the psychics do, and which produces better results than non-Holy-Spirit activities.  Indeed a simple explanation of this is that if your results aren't 100% then they aren't from the Holy Spirit, as God is not half-right.  Some people feel that they are missing out if they don't use spirit guides, however what they don't consider is that anything spirit guides can guide to you the Holy Spirit can do, and far better, with liberty in God.
