The cost of decent English property will eat up more money than expected.  As a rule of thumb we figure the ratio from the USA Midwest to the West of England (semi-urban) approaches eight times more expensive in the UK.  

Moving for family is always a good thing!

Can you get an NHS card (or maybe you have one) or have some other way to provide the benefits coverages you might need?  Some USA benefits work for expats, but I'm told not all.
