Physical characteristics depend on a genetics subject to environmental factors during development.  

In Fingerprints the development is largely pre-birth.

Some of the other characteristics that later can identify a person are more influence by environmental factors post birth.

As finger prints often are sampled to match, not all variances create enough distinction in automated review.
