It is possible to viral-in tree genetics into a virus that infects people.  
You can cause a germ to infect a human with tree genetics.  The idea behind it 
was to change a germ to insert their genes into human cells, but having that 
DNA replaced with tree DNA.  The result?  And this is not confirmed... a 
payphone was sprayed with this new germ and a person who was directed to make 
a phone call got infected with the bug and had something similiar to fungal 
growth or an out-growth of some sort of sprouting tree material.  Some 
scientists can really be literally called a "mad scientist."  Whoever thought 
this thing up has some serious issues... but there you have it.
