From what I understand OpenGPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is a public key cipher used mainly in e-mail communications while VeraCrypt uses private key ciphers (symmetric cryptography) to secure the contents its protecting, where VeraCrypt secures files, directories, and entire disks, while GPG secures the communication channels that contain the files. So: Public Key Crypto ==> GPG Private Key Crypto ==> VERAcrypt's selection of Symmetric Ciphers Where public key cryptography is very slow and private key crypto is much much faster However they have different uses, where GPG's RSA/EnGamel secures the channel and short messages, while VERAcrypt secures large amounts of data. Both types of cryptogrpahy are needed, but they do different things.
