It has the TOR network (The Onion Router) pre=setup for use with all sorts of
programs.  Its setup for anonymous web browsing, various instant messaging
services, and because it completely bypasses the hard drive of the local
computer (files can be saved on to your USB stick); so if there was a
keylogger or some sort of surveillance on the coffee shop computer that
wouldn't cause problems for you as TAILS almost completely bypasses both the
local machine and its Internet connection.
