Subj : One-Time-Pads : Totally Secure Comms To : All From : warmfuzzy Date : Tue Apr 11 2023 22:11:04 I would be amiss if I didn't include One Time Pad (OTP) cryptography to this list of secure comms platforms. OTP (if implemented as it should be) is literally uncrackable. I am using "literally" in its literal sense. You simply can not crack this code. It has to do with the nature of the comms system. This is used by spies the world over, often transmitted through "numbers stations" which are broadcasts on HF (shortwave) radio and the recipient of the codes can decrypt the message (even when broadcast in a manner that others can hear as well) without the worry of data compromise. There are two main methods of conducting a transfer of data. The first is to have sets of 4 or 5 numbers repeated in the clear. This would involve many sets of numbers going on and on until the secret message has been conveyed. The new way of doing it is to use software defined radio to modify the properties of songs and insert artifacts into the audio such as having a beep or something at a particular frequency, and a beep or something at another frequency after that first one, continuing on until all the comms are sent. This is a type of steganography. Steganography is the hiding of secret or sensitive materials inside other media. So for example you could take an MP3 song and alter some minor points of the audio so that a message is contained from within that non-descript audio file. Some things to think about and I hope that you have enjoyed this journey.
