That seems possible. But sometimes people make trade-offs. Maybe it will be worth it to China's elite to trash the economy in favor of reducing the population, provided that the rest of the world's elite are also on-board.

If the world population is reduced by 86% (as suggested at the World Economic Forum,) then who needs an economy?

I strongly suspect that this was the intention with covid-19. The strains that were in circulation during the "plandemic" era (2019-2020) killed a lot of people who fit in those categories, and certain Democrats (Cuomo/Hochul) even accellerated the proccess more than the virus' inherent capabilities.

However, to achieve a low enough population as to create "cleaner air and cleaner water," like VP Harris has called for, would require less prejudice in the killings; they would need to do a mass killing first, then do some trimming later.
