They can work from about 100 Hz all the way to around 2 GHz. So if the bug in question is not a new funky signal technology then a simple Amazon purchase of some radio reception kit should do the job of picking up listening devices. Most bugs use a simple FM signal, however there are some that try to scramble the signal. Note that I said scramble the signal, not encrypt it. With a bit of tinkering with it you should be able to pick up any nearby bugs. With the software in SDR systems being modular it would be easy to write some code to decrypt various scrambled signals without much of a mess. My favorite SDR's are those that don't run to hot and that can pick up Shortwave signals. I *really* enjoy listening to Worldband Radio. I like to get my news from various sources across the globe. SW Radio lets me do that. For TV I quite enjoy the DW News station from Germany, and for SW I quite enjoy listening to the 4.840 MHz Christian news broadcasting station What do you folks think about the potential of SDRs? Cheers! -warmfuzzy P.S. I'm really liking the SDRPlay RSP1A Radio Spectrum Processor which in their latest model runs from 1 kHz to 2 GHz. Perfect for SW radio amateur listening. Have fun with this! -wf --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A48 2022/07/15 (Linux/64) * Origin: thE qUAntUm wOrmhOlE, rAmsgAtE, uK. bbs.erb.pw (700:100/37) .
