These are my ideas for the ultimate bug:

It would record on a 256 Gig MicroSD card ($130 USD)
It would be hard wired into an electric plug
It would be placed into a bathroom so that the person retreiving the audio
    would have good reason for taking their time with large poop
It would transmit its data on WiFi (latest generation; currently wireless "AC"
It would use both public and private key cryptography (ECC and AES)
The bug wouldn't transmit until an ignition sequence is trasmitted to the bug
It would have a FHSS mode of transmission as an alternative to WiFi
In normal operation no tranmissions would come from the master bug at all
The MicroSD card would be encrypted with AES
Very few metal parts would be in the bug, though this is preferable and not
    necessary (as an electronic plug has metal already in it)
It would be modular, transmissions to the bathroom hub would be over the
    electrical wiring from four seperate bugs that would relay their
    received audio to the master hub
It would run on Linux
It would be hardened against reverse-engineering
It would cost about $1000 USD
Audio would be compressed with four streams (one per bug) of MP3 audio codec
    at 128kbps (mono) per stream, total of 512kbps (4x mono)
