So you have noticed that much of what is fed to us is not so good for us?!

Indoctrination and conditioning.

A small example, the F-bomb was a rarity decades ago, never heard in polite company, and if you heard it at home something was really aweful.

I can remember getting up and leaving a Richard Prior comedy set we had been comp'ed tickets because it was basically F-bombs with semi-funny stuff in between. That was back then, now you can't hardly find a comedy set that is F-bomb free.  Decades of conditioning along with the trope "swearing is a sign of intelligence" have conditioned us to allow formerly words of insult as friendly banter.

This repeats over an over and you move a society - that is only if you accept the conditioning.

On a personal level I stopped shooter-games decades ago, as I'd seen the fallout of real gun play.  I didn't want to allow myself to be deconditioned from the seriousness.

Likewise I changed my TV viewing to classic movies, some period dramas (yup, I rather enjoy "All Creatures" about the Yorkshire vets), travel and green shows (nature).  

Filled some of the needs and time with reading and direct research.  

Would rather be a SME (Subject Matter Expert) in limited areas than purposely made ignorant & incompetent across the board.

Park those vices, handle the indoctination, and carry your own water.
