I thought newer credit cards that have the )))) symbol have the wireless pay ability.  I know there is an antenna and chip in there, so if you sent in enough power you should be able to get the signal back.

And you're probably right, they just want to be able to match your tunnel picture, to the photo they take when you're talking to the passport control guy, to the photo of you when you leave again.

If they get some CC info all the better to later look you up.

Reminds me of the Jason Bourne movie, where he wants them to know he's back, and he uses his real passport, and it sets off a bunch of alerts.
