He is a busy chappy but he says he is working on an update this year that will allow you to set your own preferences. NB Have you noticed you can update your preferences (per session) by using Alt-B and Alt-N (for backspace and newline respectively)?. I didn't work that out for a while. I also note the behaviour differences when moving between systems. For example, if I telnet into my raspberrypi and then telnet to a bbs from there, BS and CR work correctly, without even having to change the settings.
