I posted from my board, aBSiNTHE BBS. The funky characters you're seeing are
Amiga CNET MCI, the equivalent of pipe codes on the PC. Mystic and Enigma 1/2
support them now, but it looks like Synchronet does not yet do so. If you're a
coder, I can send over a reference table so you can whip up a quick translation
 script.
