I think from the teardowns they've done it's actually a Linux machine running Nintendo's own emulator software, which is likely superior to the FOSS stuff since Nintendo has all the specs and other information to make an accurate emulator. I still kind of want one for my family since it comes with most of our favorite games and is way more approachable to them than a retropi.
