Subj : New c64 user To : All From : Cranksy Date : Sun Sep 27 2020 20:42:57 Funny thing is, with all the Minis and Maxis, Ultimate64, and Mega65 on the horizon... I just bought two new to me Breadbin c64s. One NTSC and one PAL. Which I had shipped over from the UK, since most of my interest in the machine is demoscene stuff. But being able to play games and stuff is a plus, so I picked up a Monster Joystick kit. I ended up getting an Electroware PSU, cables from 8bit classics, and Found out about the Dell 2001 monitor, and stumbled onto one on eBay for a good price, so it's doubling as my second monitor on my main desktop, with the c64 plugged into the Svideo, which looks great! I just picked up a retrotink Mini just in case I desire to hook it up to something HDMI. I however am still waiting (for well over a month!) for the UltimateII+ cart to arrive, but is scheduled for tomorrow. It's been frustrating looking at this beautiful machine idle without being able to load anything into it. I also got a Backbit cartridge coming as a backup, or maybe just load it up with all NTSC specific stuff for the other machine, as the PAL is going to be my main. As a musician, I've long had a soft spot for SID tunes, and have dabbled in them myself via Goattracker, so it will be great to be able to play them on proper hardware! Speaking of that, I got a SIDfx sitting here waiting to go in and an 8580 chip on the way as well. So yeah, I spent WAY too much all at once to get all this up and running, but am really looking forward to get into deep diving into the little bugger. Maybe even get myself to start coding finally and try my hand at some demos myself. So, what should I try out first? Probably some music, maybe the new Memento Mori demo, and buy and download the new Zeta Wing game. Any other recommendations? Thanks, and cheers. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A43 2019/03/02 (Linux/64) * Origin: thE qUAntUm wOrmhOlE, rAmsgAtE, uK. bbs.erb.pw (80:774/81) .
