Pepper,
The Geneve uses extra address lines to be able to access more memory with the
GenMod modification.  Because of the GenMod design, there was some super fast
circuitry that may what is allowing a non-stock (GenMod Geneve) to do
something special that was not anticipated.

I have my fingers crossed when Matt has the time between his other
responsibilities, whatever the hardware issue exists can be resolved.
 
As far as the TI-99/4A, there is no issue.
