Yep. The other implementation I referred to gives the user x keypresses (I
think it's 10? it's been a while since I wrote that script) before
disconnecting them, so it's a bit less brutal and probably still just as
effective.

Ha! Yeah, well, I think most BBS people wouldn't blink at being asked to hit
escape twice, of course. It's the newcomers who I think would be most
affected. I'm probably making this sound like a bigger deal than it is, I'm
just explaining my own thought process for why I did it the way I did it.
