Personally, I think using 8.3 across a network ensures that everyone can receive the files just fine. That's why I make sure anything I hatch out uses that format. People tend to forget we're still using 40+ year old technology and not everyone's system can handle what we think of as "modern features". Anyway, MBSE can handle long filenames just fine in my testing. Now, if someone tries to hatch out something in Micronet with a long filename and my system chokes on it, well, the file just won't get hatched out.
