So this sparked some curiosity with me, as I dont see how or why this would occur. (Unless I'm not understanding the context of this discussion?)

It is quite conceivable that user "Teller" on a system could send me a netmail, and:

a) "Teller" wouldnt appear in the nodelist, as he is a user,
b) "Teller" could be a real name.

Is there a spec that I've missed that explains your position in more detail?

When clrghouz processes mail (and netmail) for systems, it does no processing on the "name" fields of a message in a packet (and many other fields for that matter).
