OMV, in the way I'm using it, isn't "bolted on"; it's integrated into
the OS itself.  There is a version of OMV that runs on top of an
existing Debian install, however.

The only reason I don't use *BSD directly is that I don't want to have
to relearn the intricacies of another operating system.  I am familiar
with Debian and how it works so that's why I was interested in OMV.  

I will say that pfSense is an excellent setup and I have used it before
professionally and personally.
