in the past with wonky for failing hardware, going into devmgmt and looking up the details of a device can give you a lot of information, some of which might be useful.

in my old age i just learned to stay away from cheap hardware.  I wouldn't trust an usb hub made by some offbrand company.  I've caught stuff in the past when i would buy junk off newegg.
