Subj : 9-pin dot matrix To : All From : Sean Dennis Date : Wed Nov 29 2023 23:27:28 Hi everyone, I am looking to find an unused 9-pin (or higher) dot matrix printer for my BBS. I had a beautiful 24-pin, 132-column Panasonic KX-P2624 dot matrix printer that I paid $5 for from a thrift store in Marietta, Georgia in 2007 but lost it when I couldn't afford to pay my storage room in 2020 and lost a lot of good hardware (and a lot of rare OS/2 software) that way. :( I'd like to find an IBM, Okidata, or Panasonic printer. I looked on eBay and Lord, the overly high prices made me spit out my soda. Then Amazon was worse: USD$295 for a used OKI Microline 320 Elite? For that price, I could buy a new one. The reason for a dot-matrix is compatibility with native OS/2 printer drivers (ArcaOS has CUPS but it is an out-of-date version and to build a PPD file for my Brother inkjet is just too much) and no inkjet ink to dry up. I know how to resurrect an old dot-matrix printer ribbon using WD-40 and a warm oven. If that isn't old school, I don't know what is. Plus I mainly print only text such as netmails, manual pages, and the like occasionally. Once I get Devaun Linux set up on my personal box (Any Day Now[tm]), I could set up a lpd server but that is more work than I want to do. If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it. You can netmail me directly. Thanks, Sean --- ProBoard v2.17 [Reg] * Origin: Outpost BBS * Johnson City, TN (618:618/1) .
