The Dam at Lock 43 was a Wicket Dam. Wickets were made of Foot square timbers (4 of them) held together by metal plates at the Top, Bottom and in the Middle. The Middle was a framework that had one end attached to the wicket with the other end fastened at the borrom of the river. Also iat the Middle was a long metal pole that 'propped' the wicket in place when it landed in a notch when being raised. French names for all of the parts of the Dam were used where I worked. Chnoine, Boule, Weir and possibly the word Wicket also. Lock and Dam 43 has been removed and replaced by a concrete Dam with Tainer Gates which are raised/lowered by wire cable attached fo electric motors mounted at the top of the Dam Piers. Enjoy your Ocean trip and River trip. Ed --- SBBSecho 3.28-Linux * Origin: capitolcityonline.net * Telnet/SSH:2022/HTTP (618:250/1) .
