Its been weird for years now.

In '95 remember everyone said "the net" was gonna bring us allllllll together
in some big happy utopian socialist paradise. C'mon people now, smile on your
brother...  everyone lets hold hands as we all go out surfing the world wide
web in no time experiencing diversity of the world, we will all be smarter
with instant access to literature and knowledge. And everyone will be friends.

None of that happened.

Things REALLY went off the rails with Facebook... the dominos then fell faster
with Twitter. Mainstream journalism took a nosedive. And I'm sure its just a
coincidence that gender fantasy nonsense began receiving all sorts of media
attention at the same time.
