I just got a 2010 Ford Escape, but mine is not awd and has a 5 speed manual.
So far I'm happy with the gas mileage on the 2.5, it's not amazing, but it's
not v6 caravan burning either.

Same here.  We had a nasty snow storm this year and busses, trucks, everything
stuck in the ditch.  Andrea went to work in her accent didn't get stuck worked
all day drove home and had no issues.  Sometimes you just need to know how
to drive.  (Plus she has Winter tires which do help)
